Overview
Updating markups allows you to adjust how bill and pay rates are calculated—such as increasing the standard overtime markup (e.g., 1.5x) or applying special holiday multipliers. Markup changes affect future timesheets only, so existing entries remain unchanged.
When updating a markup for one specific worker, best practice is to end the current assignment and assign them to a new job with the updated rate to maintain clear rate history.
Navigation
Go to the Job Order or Assignment Details.
Locate and open the Rate Configuration linked to the job.
Edit the Markup settings to reflect new rates or multipliers.
Save your configuration changes.
Key Features
Adjust default or custom markup rates across job orders.
Support for overtime, double-time, or holiday-specific markups.
Maintain a clean rate-change audit trail through new job creation.
Option to apply changes globally (for all workers) or individually.
Use Case 1: Changing Markup for Everyone on an Order
Scenario: You want to update the markup rate for all workers assigned to a single job order.
Steps:
Open the Rate Configuration from the job order details.
Update the Markup Percentage (e.g., change bill rate markup from 1.5x to 1.6x).
Standard overtime pay markup is typically 1.5x, but you can adjust bill markups as needed.
Click Save Changes.
Important:
If the Rate Configuration is shared with multiple orders, this change will affect all of them. To avoid global updates, create a new Rate Configuration and apply it to only the intended job order.
Use Case 2: Changing Markup for One Person (Best Practice)
Scenario: You need a unique markup for a specific worker on a shared job order.
Steps:
Create a New Order/Job
Set up a new order for that worker’s updated rate period.
Apply the correct Rate Configuration with the new markup.
End Current Assignment
End the existing assignment as of the date before the new rate takes effect.
Assign to New Job
Reassign the worker to the new job with the updated rate settings.
This method ensures clear visibility of “old rate” and “new rate” periods. Note that timesheets do not move automatically between jobs, so this separation keeps reporting accurate.
FAQ
Q: Do markup changes affect existing timesheets?
A: No, changes apply only to future timesheets after the configuration update.
Q: What happens if the rate configuration is shared?
A: Any markup update will affect all jobs linked to that configuration. Create a new configuration if you want the change to apply only to specific jobs.
Pro Tip
Use end dating and new job creation for individual worker rate updates to maintain compliance and avoid confusion during audits.
